    Stefan Scheiber is the new CEO of Bühler

    Uzwil (Switzerland), July 1, 2016 – As announced a year ago, Stefan Scheiber is now CEO of Bühler.     Bühler presents first Food Engineering Award to Josef Hörmansperger from ETH Zurich

    Uzwil, May 27, 2016 – At the 10th European PhD Workshop on Food Engineering and Technology, Bühler for the first time awarded the Bühler Food Engineering Award. The award was presented to Josef Hörmansperger, a PhD candidate from ETH Zurich, for developing a quality-preserving microbial decontamination method for food powders such as milk powder. With the Food Engineering Award, Bühler wants to encourage young researchers to address issues which are particularly relevant for the food industry. Read more

    Food industry and young researchers work together to address industry challenges

    Uzwil, April 25, 2016 – The global food industry faces an enormous challenge: By 2050, almost 10 billion people will have to be fed in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. In order to achieve this, various issues need to be addressed, among them the industrial processing of alternative protein sources such as algae or insects, the development of new and innovative food products, implementing highest food safety standards across the entire value chain or reducing food and feed losses. „These challenges can no longer be solved by any company alone, but require a coordinated effort by the global food industry and the best researchers. With the 10th European PhD Workshop on Food Engineering and Technology, Bühler aims to provide a platform to bring together the best young European researchers in the field of Food Engineering and to strengthen the collaboration between leading industry players and academia“, explains Ian Roberts, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Bühler.     Bühler speeds up e-mobility with new technology

    Uzwil (Switzerland), April 26, 2016 – In the future, electrically powered cars are expected to play a key role in improving the air quality in metropolitan areas and reducing CO2 emissions. As a consequence, the increase in e-fleets and thus also battery capacities is being pushed on a global scale – and especially in China. For manufacturing the key component of these energy storage devices, the so-called battery electrode slurry, Bühler has in the past years joined forces with the Chinese manufacturer Lishen and developed an entirely new and much more efficient production process – and has now been awarded the first large-scale order by Lishen for four production lines worth almost CHF 10 million. “For us, this order means that we have entered the rapidly growing market of the future of e-mobility,” explains Samuel Schär, CEO of the Bühler Advanced Materials Business.     The World Embraces Pulses

    Uzwil (Switzerland), March 3, 2016 – Pulses are gaining ground: in Europe alone, more than 3500 pulse-based products have been launched since 2010 – and this continues to grow. This is good news for the environment as these dry edible seeds of legume crops are an extremely sustainable source of protein. To further raise awareness of pulses, which are both climate-friendly and healthy, the UN has proclaimed 2016 the “International Year of Pulses” (IYOP). Béatrice Conde-Petit, food scientist and technologist for Bühler adds: “The growing interest from the food industry in including pulses in new food formulations is opening up a vast range of processing opportunities for this valuable crop.     Bühler grows and increases profits

    Uzwil, 10 February 2016 – In 2015, Bühler Group achieved a sustainable performance, with perceptible growth in turnover and improved profits – despite a challenging economic environment. Turnover was up by 3.4% to CHF 2.4 billion, with EBIT rising by 22.4% to CHF 177 million. This corresponds to an EBIT margin of 7.3% (previous year: 6.2%). Currency-adjusted, Bühler grew by 7.1% and order intake, slightly down amounting to CHF 2.5 billion (-4.3%), would have remained almost stable. “These good results were only possible due to the strong dedication of our employees, their readiness to work extra hours and the comprehensive package of measures which we implemented immediately after abandonment of the Euro peg”, says Bühler CEO Calvin Grieder, adding: “We owe our employees our sincerest thanks.” Read more

    How to mobilize the apprenticeship

    Uzwil, November 11, 2015 – Today’s Bühler apprentices spend several months of their vocational training outside Switzerland. This extended assignment abroad is possible thanks to a distance-teaching concept called ClassUnlimited™, which was launched in 2012 by Bühler and the Vocational School and School of Further Education BZWU Wil-Uzwil.     Bühler establishes logistics center in Germany

    Alzenau (Germany), October 6th, 2015 – The Uzwil-based Bühler Technology Group is investing in its site in Alzenau, Germany, the headquarters of its thin-film technology leader Bühler Leybold Optics, to build a state-of-the-art logistics center. By the end of the year, the Bühler Die Casting and Grinding & Dispersion units, currently operating their logistics and warehousing faciliaties in Viernheim, Germany, will move to Alzenau. “With the integration of the logistics of three business areas here in Alzenau, we are strengthening our site as well as accelerating our deliveries to customers in Europe and the rest of the world,” says Antonio Requena, CEO and Managing Director of Bühler’s Business Area Leybold Optics.     Bühler acquires chocolate specialist Hosokawa Bepex

    Uzwil, Hirakata, October 1, 2015 – To further strengthen its chocolate business, Bühler Group on September 30, 2015 signed a contract to acquire the German-based Hosokawa Bepex GmbH – a subsidiary of HOSOKAWA ALPINE Aktiengesellschaft – and part of its listed Hosokawa Micron Group, Hirakata.     Bühler continues extra work hours in a reduced form.

    Uzwil, September 2, 2015 – Following intense negotiations, Bühler has reached an agreement with its Employee Commission to continue extra work hours to counter the strong Swiss franc, but in a reduced form from 45 hours a week down to 42.5 hours a week.     Bühler opens training mill in Nairobi

    Uzwil, May 13, 2015 – The Uzwil technology group Bühler has opened the first-ever training mill in Africa in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.     Bühler is ready to lead the die casting industry through the next growth cycle

    Bühler Die Casting with strong growth signals

    Uzwil (Switzerland), Düsseldorf (Germany), June 23, 2015 – The Bühler Die Casting business received strong growth signals and substantial orders at the 13th International Foundry Trade Fair (GIFA) in Düsseldorf, Germany, which ended last Saturday.     Bühler signs large-scale contract over CHF 50 million

    Uzwil, May 11, 2015 – The Saudi Arabian flour producer Grain Silos & Flour Mills Organization (GSFMO) has entrusted the Bühler Technology Group with building a new flour milling complex in Jazan. The plant will be constructed over the next three years in the southernmost port of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and will boast a wheat processing capacity of 600 metric tons per 24 hours. Since 1978, 50 percent of all flour mills in the Kingdom have been supplied by Bühler. “We are very pleased to continue our strategic partnership with GSFMO in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
